Netflix launches app that turns iPhone into TV game controller

A Netflix today launched an app for iPhones and iPads that promises to turn them into a joystick. Called Netflix Game Controller (Netflix Game Controller, in free translation), it is now available on the App Store.

It is worth noting that the application does not yet fully work, given that there are still no games from the company for TVs. Those who download it now, however, will see a message saying that games for big screens are in beta.

Coming soon to Netflix. Play games on your TV with the Netflix Game Controller. This app syncs with your TV, allowing you to play Netflix using your phone or mobile device.

Netflix’s game service landed on iPhones and iPads in 2021, bringing titles like “Tomb Raider Reloaded” e “Stranger Things: Puzzle Tales”. There are rumors that the company will take its titles to smart TVs and devices like Apple TV — with the arrival of the app, they seem to be true.

Last year, Mike Green, one of the leaders of the company, had already spoken regarding the possibility of the company exploring the cloud gaming market. This new application might be a sign that this is closer to happening.

When contacted, Netflix declined to share details regarding the service’s future plans.
