Netflix deprives subscribers to an offer including Netflix in addition or to accounts billed by third parties, from adding an additional subscriber, a key option in its fight against account sharing.
Account sharing is over, Netflix launched its new restrictions last week. You will now have to pay €5.99/month to add additional members outside the main household. However, several derogations have been put in place, in particular for children in shared custody, for any regular business trip or to secondary homes. For travel or mobility on smartphone and tablet, you will need to connect once a month to the WiFi network of the main account.
If the SVOD juggernaut is currently sending an email to its subscribers to inform them of the two options available to them, many of them are not currently offered the possibility of adding an additional subscriber, the flagship option of the end of account sharing. Netflix does not allow this to be done on the “Standard with ads” and “Essential” offers. Only the “Standard” (one additional subscriber) and “Premium” (up to two additional subscribers) formulas are affected by this possibility.
And that’s not all since the American giant specifies in its FAQ that “additional subscribers cannot be added to offers that include Netflix as an extra or to accounts billed by third parties”. We are thinking of Freebox and Canal+ subscribers, among others. In the email sent to them, only the profile transfer option is mentioned. The only possible choice is thus to migrate the profile of people who use an account outside the home, to a new subscription.
For the moment, the end of account sharing is centered on the television and the WiFi network of the subscriber who pays the subscription. If Netflix notices, for example, that you use two different WiFi networks to connect regularly, it will consider, depending on the case, that the two connections are linked to the main account, and will then not block them. For now, the restrictions do not seem automatic, many subscribers still manage to connect a new TV with their account outside the main household. But for how long?
