Extension already fixed: Pediatric care will start in October

St. Pölten (OTS/NLK) – On Saturday, July 15, Tullnerfeld had every reason to celebrate. The PVZ Tullnerfeld is one of three primary care units (PVE) that opened their doors in Lower Austria at the beginning of the month. Many prominent guests have announced their attendance at the open day, who underscored the importance of the new center for the region and patient care. The population also took the opportunity to discover the newly built health center. In October we are already expanding: Then three paediatricians will be added.

After two weeks of operation, the new PVZ Tullnerfeld has long since passed its baptism of fire. Six general practitioners and specialists from six health professions and social work take care of the daily growing number of patients with the expert surgery team in the new building directly at Tullnerfeld train station.

“The nationwide expansion of primary care in Austria is an indispensable step in order to ensure medical care for the population in the years to come. The opening of the PVZ Tullnerfeld is a win for the entire region. Patients and medical staff benefit equally from the extended opening hours and the multidisciplinary team,” explains Health Minister Johannes Rauch.

“The new primary care center not only strengthens medical care for the residents of Tullnerfeld, but the new facility also continues the development of Tullnerfeld train station from a transport hub to a regional center. This success story is not a matter of course, but is due to the foresight of those responsible in the surrounding communities and the state of Lower Austria. I’m sure that the opening of the PVZ is just another chapter that will be followed by many more,” said State Parliament President Karl Wilfing at the opening.

“There is a lot of interest in primary care units. It is a particularly sustainable model. Cooperation is an important factor. Two other locations – St. Pölten-Nord and Mauer/Amstetten – are already in the start-up phase and want to start next year,” says Provincial NÖGUS Chairman Mag. Christoph Luisser and adds: “Particularly with their long opening times, primary care units make a contribution to relieving the burden on the outpatient departments. In addition, some PVE locations in Lower Austria are equipped in such a way that they can be approached by the rescue team and integrated into acute care.”

“This primary care unit is a prime example of medical care in a region. Each PVE stands for teamwork and concentrated health know-how under one roof. Here in the center of the Tullnerfeld, an exceptional range of services has emerged right at a public transport hub,” says Robert Leitner, chairman of the provincial committee of the Austrian Health Insurance Fund in Lower Austria. “The ÖGK is looking for new ways in the provision of panel doctors that offer benefits to doctors and patients alike. The now 44 Austrian PVE fit perfectly into the network of general practitioners.”

When asked about the role PVE play in residential healthcare, Dr. Dagmar Fedra-Machacek, Deputy Chairman of the Curia of the Medical Association for Lower Austria:
“Primary care primarily means low-threshold, timely and local care, in which continuity of care must also be guaranteed. The so-called primary care units have now been added to the already established system of general practitioners in individual and group practices. I see the role of the PVE as a good addition to the established system. In this way, the ever-growing desire of the mostly young colleagues to work in a team can be met, whereby the innovation here is certainly in the area of multidisciplinary cooperation. The resulting opportunities to be able to offer an expanded range, e.g. B. with extended opening times, will certainly also bring advantages for the patients.” Dr. Fedra-Machacek continues: “These show us that there can be good cooperation between the new primary care units and the established system of individual and group practices. In Lower Austria with its rural regions, we will always have to rely on the interaction of individual and group practices with the primary care units in order to be able to maintain care for the entire population. Overall, well-developed and strong primary care must be the goal for everyone. I see us, i.e. the system partners ÖGK, state and medical association, here in Lower Austria on a good common path.

“Although the PVZ Tullnerfeld is geographically located in the market town of Michelhausen, due to our inter-municipal cooperation, we see all three as location communities. In addition, where the doctors of our three communities have created an absolute top health facility across communities, which brings double added value for our citizens, namely several health services under one roof and extended opening hours. For our communities and the region, this is a leap in medical quality and a real upgrade,” says Bernhard Heinl, Mayor of the market town of Michelhausen, together with Mayor Georg Hagl (Judenau-Baumgarten) and Mayor Leopold Figl (Langenrohr).

In Tullnerfeld, the doctors from the communities of Michelhausen, Judenau-Baumgarten and Langenrohr – Dr. George Dorninger, Dr. Michael Kaiblinger and Dr. Christa Magerl – united. Together with the general practitioner Dr. Corinna Wandl and the general practitioners Dr. Erol Erdik and Dr. Leonhard Oberhofer, they started operating their new primary care center (PVZ) on July 3rd.

“A primary care center opens up many new possibilities beyond the classic family doctor’s work,” explains the medical team at the new PVZ Tullnerfeld. Among other things, there are significantly extended opening hours: Monday to Friday, the doors are open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. A colorful team of different health professionals from the fields of medicine, qualified nursing, ordination assistance, social work, physiotherapy, ergotherapy and psychotherapy, speech therapy, dietetics and a midwife are also available for the patients.

The team will be completed from October 2023. With the start of the pediatric service with three pediatricians, an important step has been taken towards strengthening the statutory health insurance for children and young people. The building, which was planned by the architectural office DI Wolfgang Wildauer, is an innovative timber construction and not only includes the primary care center on the ground floor, but also a panel dentist and other doctors and health professionals on the upper floor.
