Activists of the climate group “Last Generation” have now started a campaign in Germany aimed at rich citizens. The activists dug up a golf course on the North Sea island of Sylt and planted flowers and trees instead.
Appeal to politics
“While the super-rich play golf here, they are gambling away our future,” said one of the activists involved in a statement published on Twitter. German politics should also be less concerned with shower times and other measures and instead target the super-rich, who would act as climate sinners.
The Sylt golf course Budersand affected by the campaign was only voted Germany’s most popular golf course in 2022. Armed with safety vests and shovels, the activists began digging up the lawn on Wednesday.
The redesign also included replacing the flag on the green with a sign that said “Conservation Area”. The activists also unfurled a banner that read: “Your luxury = our water shortage.”
In a broadcast, the “Last Generation” wrote: “Golf courses take up vast areas and vast amounts of resources only for the luxury of a few people who can afford it.”
