A neurologist was found dead in his consultation room at Mariaziekenhuis Noorderhart Hospital in Pelt on Friday morning. Het Belang van Limburg reported the news on Saturday and it was confirmed to Belga by the general director of the Mariaziekenhuis Noorderhart Hospital, Hans Ramaekers. Due to the suspicious death of the neurologist, the local police were notified, then the Limburg prosecutor.

A staff member found the neurologist lifeless in his consultation room. He was off duty and went to the hospital during the night from Thursday to Friday. It is possible that he then rested in his office. Nothing is known about the cause of his death. The doctor has worked at the hospital since 2007. Previously, he worked at the Oost-Limburg hospital in Genk.

“This is a tragic and unexpected incident. He was a well-liked and respected doctor in our hospital. This is a very regrettable matter,” said Hans Ramaekers. Friday morning, the neurologist had normally scheduled a series of consultations, but these were canceled. The hospital will now examine and consult with patients on how their treatment will proceed.
