2023-12-31 15:01:00

From this Monday, January 1, 2024, new bans on vehicles will be put in place in France in metropolitan areas in order to reduce pollution. Are you affected by the new regulations?

Crit’Air 2, 3 or 5, a new start to the new year and you don’t know if you can continue to drive your vehicle, we’ll enlighten you! The cities affected by the Low Emission Zone are Greater Paris, Lyon, Aix-Marseille, Toulouse, Nice, Strasbourg, Grenoble, Rouen, Reims, Saint-Etienne and Montpellier.

The ZFE, low emissions zone, was created by the Climate Law in 2021 in order to reduce pollution from fine particles and nitrogen oxides? In France at the end of 2024, there will be 43 ZFEs in towns with more than 150,000 inhabitants that will only authorize Crit’Air 1.2 or green vehicles.

But before we reach the end of 2024, what will happen this year?

Cities where Crit’Air 4 are banned from tomorrow

To begin with, from January 1, 2024, Crit’Air 4 vehicles, i.e. diesel vehicles registered between January 1, 2001 and December 31, 2005, will be prohibited in the ZFE. For individuals, only gasoline cars prior to 1997 are concerned.

In Montpellier, this ban will also be effective. As a reminder, the perimeter is Castelneau-Le-Lez, Clapiers, Grabels, Jacou, Juvignac, Lattes, Le Crès, Montpellier, Pérols, Saint-Jean-deVédas and Villeneuve-les-Maguelones.

Same thing for Lyon, Strasbourg and Grenoble.

In Marseille, Rouen and Toulouse the ban on Crit’Air 4 vehicles has already been in effect for 3 years for some, indicates TF1 info.

Amendes in cases of non-respect

In the event of non-compliance with this rule, motorists risk a fine of 68 euros for a vehicle and 135 euros for a heavy goods vehicle or a coach.

In Grenoble, the urban area has set up a six-month “educational period”, allowing owners of the vehicles concerned to find another solution and therefore not receive fines.

The fine concerning vehicles without a sticker or with a crit’Air 5 sticker will be properly applied.

In Strasbourg, on the other hand, there is no longer a teaching period. However, the license plate reading system will only be able to take effect in 2025, until then only a check carried out by the police could result in a fine.

A case-by-case ban

Concerning other cities, such as Nantes, Saint-Etienne or Nice, they are not affected by the ban on Crit’Air 4. For example, Nice, with a view to improving the quality of its air, is not not affected by the implementation of the ban, explains our colleagues.

For Saint-Etienne, the restriction only concerns heavy goods vehicles and utility vehicles.

For the city of Toulouse, it is impacted by the restriction of Crit’air 3 vehicles, that is to say, gasoline cars registered between January 1, 1997 and December 31, 2005 and diesel cars registered between January 1, 1997 and December 31, 2005. January 2006 and December 31, 2010, the implementation adopted in 2024 was postponed.

To order your Crit’Ar sticker, simply go to the official website www.certificat-air.gouv.fr. The cost is 3.72 euros per vehicle.
