The new British Prime Minister, Liz Truss, met with Queen Elizabeth II on the 6th (local time) to be appointed and officially started her duties.

The Associated Press reported that Prime Minister Liz Truss was officially appointed Prime Minister after an audience with Queen Elizabeth II at Balmoral Castle in Scotland.

Prime Minister Liz Truss was elected leader of the Conservative Party on the 5th. The Queen invited Truss and outgoing former Prime Minister Boris Johnson to appoint a new prime minister. Former Prime Minister Boris Johnson stepped down after meeting the Queen ahead of Truss on the 6th to approve her resignation. Prime Minister Truss is scheduled to deliver his inaugural address this afternoon at Downing Street, the prime minister’s residence.

Britain’s new prime minister is formally appointed by the monarch. This has been held at Buckingham Palace in London, but this time the new Prime Minister visited Balmoral Castle, where her elderly Elizabeth II spends her summer vacation. It is the first time since 1885 that Balmoral has appointed a new prime minister.
