Developed under the username rakanki911, the utility bypasses standard compatibility restrictions by bundling scattered modding work into a single executable application.

NVIDIA originally tied its next-generation neural rendering technology to the GeForce RTX 50-series hardware generation, debuting the capability prominently in titles like NBA 2K27. However, the newly released swapper utility opens access to older architecture. The application extends DLSS 5 functionality directly to RTX 20-series and RTX 30-series graphics cards, effectively sidestepping the hardware gating implemented by the manufacturer.

Users can drag and drop a game into the app, or let it scan the drive for installed titles on its own. For titles that already ship with native DLSS integration, the swap is simple. For everything else, the tool relies on DLSS5-Feeder, a community mod that emulates the DLSS calls required to trigger Neural Rendering, paired with ReShade for the depth buffer and motion data that DLSS needs to work. That combination reportedly runs across titles from DirectX 9 through DirectX 12, and even on a handful of emulators like PCSX2, Dolphin, and Xenia.

This tool builds on the same leaked DLSS 5 files that surfaced in NBA 2K27’s pre-launch build, files modders have spent weeks getting to run on older GPUs and non-DLSS games. DLSS 5 Swapper mostly bundles that scattered work into a single app; however, since it’s unofficial and has no ties to NVIDIA, it’s important to verify the download source before installing anything. Given how far these mods have already spread, this tool is likely to become the most popular way for people to try Neural Rendering, at least until NVIDIA offers something similar itself.

The Discovery of the nvngx_dlssnr.dll Runtime File

The underlying files that made these community tools possible first surfaced in early-access builds of NBA 2K27. A file identified as NVIDIA DLSSNR in an early access build of NBA 2K27 reveals the first instance of DLSS 5 Neural Rendering in a game. The early access build of NBA 2K27 includes a 158 MB DLL file named nvngx_dlssnr.dll, identified as NVIDIA DLSSNR 310.8.0.0. According to Renan Maniero, who discovered it in early access files of NBA 2K27, this is the first publicly accessible DLSSNR runtime found in a released game build.

NVIDIA announced DLSS 5 in March as a real-time Neural Rendering model, with SIGGRAPH 2026 being where NVIDIA provided more details and explained that DLSS 5 takes color output and motion vectors for each frame and feeds them into a real-time neural rendering model. That model understands the different aspects of the frame and its contents, such as skin, hair, fabric, lighting direction, and material properties, and then uses that to produce an improved image.

Notably, the file is three times larger than current DLSS 4 components, which could be viewed as an indicator that DLSS 5 is a considerable jump compared to previous generations.
