New iPhone ‘Dynamic Island’ stolen by Android

iPhone 14 Pro models Dynamic Island, notifications around the camera instead of a notch… change in size

Android developer, Xiaomi App Market similar theme registration ‘topic’… “The first case of cloning iOS function Android”

“Smartphone trend, the trend to break away from the ‘top cut’… Instead of buying an iPhone, it is attractive for experience.”

[아시아타임즈=김창수 기자] An Android developer registered ‘Dynamic Island’, which Apple applied to iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max models, as a theme in the Xiaomi App Market, and the industry’s attention is focused on the background.

The dynamic island is the method Apple has chosen instead of the ‘notch design’ at the top of the display. The camera module is cut like an island around the camera module, a small control window appears, and the overall size changes. Recently, a theme similar to Dynamic Island was registered on the Xiaomi App Market, and this remains a rare case of copying iOS functions to Android.

iPhone Dynamic Island, Android smartphone?

According to the industry on the 14th, at the iPhone 14 series new product presentation announced by Apple on the 7th (local time), Dynamic Island applied to the Pro and Pro Max models was selected as the most striking feature.

The iPhone has been sticking to the notch design with the top part of the display with the camera lens in an ‘M’ shape since the ‘iPhone X’ in 2017. When viewing videos and photos in full screen, some screens were cut off, and some netizens compared this to ‘M-shaped hair loss’.

The iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max models replaced the notch with an always-on display that Apple called Dynamic Island. The existing camera module part is replaced with a punch hole design and the surrounding part is also used as a display.

Dynamic Island displays the status of music playback, timer, and map app on the display. If you receive a call while you are working on another task, you can use it to answer the call while continuing your existing task. In particular, the part that made multitasking possible as the display area changed according to the situation was selected as an ‘idea’.

When a new function that did not exist before became a hot topic, Android developers with the motto of versatility and openness moved quickly. Recently, overseas IT media such as Android Police and Sam Mobile introduced a 10-second video uploaded by YouTuber Vaibhav Jain.

In the video, an Android smartphone was used to implement an always-on display such as the iPhone’s dynamic island, playing music, and demonstrating the enlargement/reduction of the display. It was found that a developer implemented a theme similar to Dynamic Island on a Xiaomi smartphone using the Android custom firmware ‘MIUI’.

Jain, a YouTuber who introduced the video, said, “This theme, ‘Grumpy UI’, is currently awaiting approval and only supports Chinese.”

An Android plug-in that mimics Dynamic Island has already been released. On the 13th, a domestic tipster (information leaker) ‘Ranzuk’ posted on its blog, “A developer has released an Android version of the Smart Island plug-in.” “The smart island changes its shape so that users can receive information more intuitively, such as receiving calls and text messages,” said Lanzk. “It supports various apps and even allows users to manually adjust the bar.” He added.

In this way, the industry is showing an interesting reaction to the use of a new function applied to the iPhone as a kind of meme by ‘stealing’ it quickly from Android.

Overseas media ‘Android Authority’ said, “It’s the first time anyone tries to copy Apple’s features to an Android device.” “The smartphone trend is already moving away from the ‘top cutout’ design, but people who don’t want to buy an iPhone can use this theme. It would be good to use it for experience.”
