Strong winds and bad weather; fishermen should be cautious
Today (May 8) 40 to 50 kmph and occasional speed of 60 kmph over Tamil Nadu coast, Gulf of Mannar, Kanyakumari coast, Sri Lanka coast, Southwest Bay of Bengal, Maldives, Southeast Bay of Bengal, Andaman and Nicobar Islands adjoining Andaman Sea. According to the Central Meteorological Department, strong winds with a speed of 50 to 60 km per hour and at times up to 70 km per hour are likely to occur in Southeast Bay of Bengal, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and the adjoining Andaman Sea on May 9.
Strong winds and bad weather conditions are likely over south-east Bay of Bengal, adjoining central-east Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea adjoining Andaman and Nicobar Islands on May 10 and 11 with a speed of 60 to 70 kmph and occasional up to 80 kmph.
The Central Meteorological Department has warned that strong winds and bad weather are likely to occur in the central and eastern Bay of Bengal at a speed of 80 to 90 kmph and at some occasions up to 100 kmph and in the Andaman Sea and Andaman Islands at a speed of 60 to 70 kmph and at some occasions up to 80 kmph. In this situation, District Collector Jeromick George informed that people should not go fishing on these dates in the warning areas. Meanwhile, there is no hindrance to fishing in Kerala-Karnataka-Lakshadweep coasts.
