In Nigeria, violence took place in the north of the country, after new accusations of blasphemy. Bauchi state police said the violence left several people injured. Their number has not been specified.

It was in the town of Warji that this new violence took place. Angry young people set fire to several houses and shops on Friday, May 21, according to local police. They were looking for a 40-year-old woman whom they accused of blasphemy on social media, but she had been taken to safety by her relatives. The young people ransacked the neighborhood.

This Saturday, the police were deployed in the city and ensure that calm has returned.

It is not the first time that this subject of blasphemy has provoked violence in northern Nigeria. Last week, a Christian student from Sokoto was lynched by classmates for the same reason. Immediately after the incident, the police announced the arrest of two suspects and the next day several hundred people demonstrated to demand their release.
