New York ∙ The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reports that gun suicides in the US reached an all-time high last year.

The suicide rate was 8.1 per 100,000 in 2022 and 7.3 per 100,000 in 2019, the highest rate since 1968, according to the CDC. The report also found that non-Hispanic whites were the most likely to commit suicide in 2022. Hispanic American Indians or Alaska Natives saw the largest increase in gun suicides between 2019 and 2022.

The Biden administration also launched measures to reduce gun violence in September.
