The New York Rangers have pulled defenseman Marc Del Gaizo from the Hartford Wolf Pack, the team announced today.
Hartford Wolf Pack reported that the 27-year-old offensive defenseman is the club’s top point producer on the blue line this season.
The recall comes as Del Gaizo leads all Wolf Pack defensemen with 11 points from 15 games. He’s notched two goals and nine assists since the start of the 2026-27 AHL campaign. The Basking Ridge, NJ, native was just named Hartford’s captain on Oct. 27, a role that highlights his leadership on a team serving as the Rangers’ primary development affiliate.
Del Gaizo’s Path to the NHL
This isn’t Del Gaizo’s first rodeo with an NHL recall. He has a history of shuttling between the American Hockey League and the highest level of professional hockey. According to sportsforecaster.com, his career includes multiple assignments and recalls with the Nashville Predators.

A Wolf Pack Leader on the Move
For the Wolf Pack, losing their captain and top defenseman changes their leadership structure. Del Gaizo’s ability to contribute offensively from the blue line has been a cornerstone of the Hartford team’s success this season. His 11 points lead all Wolf Pack defenders, a fact that highlights his value to the AHL club.
Del Gaizo’s departure leaves a leadership void on the ice. His appointment as captain just over a week ago was a clear sign of the team’s faith in his ability to guide the group.

What’s Next for Hartford
The Wolf Pack are not left without bodies on the blue line. The team also announced the recall of defensemen Anthony Kehrer and Cooper Moore from their loan to the ECHL’s Worcester Railers. Kehrer, 24, has yet to make his Hartford debut. Moore, 25, skated in 38 games with the Wolf Pack during the 2025-26 season.
These moves fill the immediate roster gap left by Del Gaizo’s promotion. However, replacing a captain and the team’s leading scorer from the defense is a tall order. The Wolf Pack will look to Kehrer and Moore to step up in the absence of their veteran leader.
The Bigger Picture for the Rangers
For the New York Rangers, this is more than just a roster shuffle. The club, led by President and General Manager Chris Drury, is consistently monitoring the performance of its AHL affiliates to identify talent ready for the next step.
Hartford has long been a premier franchise in the AHL, since its inception in 1997, and has been home to numerous current Rangers stars, including Igor Shesterkin, Will Cuylle, and Gabe Perreault.
