News 24 | Health: Two thirds of pregnancy-related deaths can be prevented with regular visits to the doctor

The Ministry of Health has confirmed that two-thirds of pregnancy-related deaths can be prevented by regular visits to the doctor, as diseases and health problems are discovered by regular medical examination of the pregnant woman.

The Ministry explained that regular visits to the doctor during pregnancy protect the mother from anemia, urinary tract infections, pre-eclampsia, as well as high blood pressure, gestational diabetes, and the occurrence of any possible infection.

She added that it also protects the fetus from low birth weight and birth defects by giving the mother a folic acid supplement during the first three months, in addition to avoiding premature birth.

She noted that the doctor will help manage other common pregnancy problems, such as morning sickness, constipation, hemorrhoids, swelling and heartburn.
