The Nigerian Center for Disease Control and Prevention announced the registration of the first death from monkeypox infection of a patient who was previously suffering from chronic health problems.
The Nigerian Center said that the death case was a 40-year-old patient who was suffering from other diseases and was taking immunosuppressive drugs, noting that confirmed cases were reported from 9 states, and the capital Abuja.
For its part, the World Health Organization reassured that there is no need to fear at the present time that the spread of monkeypox outside the African continent will turn into a pandemic.
The WHO indicated that it was concerned about this “unusual situation”, but reassured that there was no reason to panic.
