The Salamtak program, one of the initiatives of the Gulf Health Council, explained what is meant by passive smoking, and what are its health damages.
The program said that passive smoking is the inhalation of smoke emitted from tobacco products used by others, adding that it is also called second-hand smoke.
He added that passive smoking causes more than 1.2 million premature deaths annually, afflicts adults with serious heart, family and respiratory diseases, and increases the risk of infants with sudden death syndrome.
He indicated that passive smoking also leads to pregnancy complications and low birth weight, and the death of 65,000 children annually due to diseases attributed to second-hand smoke.
