While the return to school for students will take place this Thursday, for several weeks, fears a possible lack of teachers have emerged. Fears that have been “shared” by the direction of the academy of Aix-Marseille, conceded this morning the rector Bernard Beignier during the press conference for the return to the rectorate. But ultimately, there will be a teacher in each class at the start of the school year, he assures us.
“All the civil service competitions in our country, including those for National Education, have seen a drop in candidates this year. We therefore feared a drop in candidates – but which ultimately was less in National Education – and that the results are not up to par. However, for the first degree, all the positions have been filled and we have had a sufficient additional list”said the rector.
For the second degree, “there was a shortage of 7.5% of teachers out of a total of 16,000 teachers, but in hourly volume in front of the students, this results in 0.5%”he explains. “There, we use contract workers but that’s nothing new”, recalls Bernard Beignier. Among them, a very large majority were already in post last year and only about fifty new contract employees join the academy.
