Next week in Parliament the new tax bill – 2024-04-07 22:14:34

Regarding the reintegration of taxpayers into the 120 installments, the Minister of Finance, Kostis Hatzidakis, spoke to SKAI, speaking of “settlement of a pending issue”, while he mentioned that the new tax bill will be submitted to the Parliament next week.

Mr. Kostis Hatzidakis added: “Because there had been an extremely strict system during the period when the troika was here, some of our tax-paying fellow citizens, who are still paying to this day, have not realized that they have missed their installments. They are in the system and in danger of getting out. We come and settle this backlog. We are giving the possibility to these 230,000 debtors to pay what they owe and to close this backlog once and for all.”

At the same time, he clarified: “These are pending issues as I described them and not a restart of installments.”

The Minister of National Economy and Finance confirmed the publication of the newspaper “Kathimerini”, according to which taxpayers who do not dispute the result of the audits and accept the additional tax determined for them will have discounts on fines and surcharges.

According to the statements of Mr. Hatzidakis to SKAI, if “the taxpayer accepts the debt at the beginning of the procedure, he will have a 50% discount, while the longer he delays, the discount of the fine will be limited. If he does not confess, he will go to court and justice will be decided.”

“The bill is under consultation until next week. We will take into account all opinions”, said the Minister of National Economy and Finance, and pointed out that “the tax bill is expected to be submitted next week to Parliament, while it will be voted on by April 20”.

Referring to the extrajudicial mechanism, he emphasized that “in recent months it has been working very well” and “so far, cases for debts of 29 billion euros have been closed and almost 30,000 of our fellow citizens have been covered by the extrajudicial arrangements”.
