NFL: Adam Thielen signs a 3-year contract with the Carolina Panthers

Wide receiver Adam Thielen has signed a three-year contract with the Carolina Panthers. Financial details of the deal have yet to be disclosed.

Thielen, 32, has spent his entire nine-season career with the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings, however, freed him less than 10 days ago.

In his career with the Vikings, Thielen caught 534 passes for 6,682 yards and 55 touchdowns in 135 games. Last season, he had 70 receptions for 716 yards and six majors while paired with star receiver Justin Jefferson.

According to an anonymous source, Thielen has signed a three-year contract. The terms, however, have not yet been disclosed.

The Panthers needed receiver experience after trading DJ Moore to the Chicago Bears in a trade that involved the first-ever pick in the upcoming NFL Draft.

Thielen, a two-time Pro Bowl pick, immediately becomes the Panthers’ most experienced receiver.

Last week, the Panthers also signed running back Miles Sanders, slotback Hayden Hurst and quarterback Andy Dalton.

Observers expect the Panthers to use the first overall pick to select a quarterback.

Gardner-Johnson with the Lions

Free agent CJ Gardner-Johnson and the Detroit Lions have agreed to a one-year contract worth up to $8 million, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Sunday night.

Gardner-Johnson, 25, was acquired by the Philadelphia Eagles from the New Orleans Saints in late August.

Upon arriving in Philadelphia, he was asked to move from cornerback to safety. He finished the regular season tied for the most interceptions in the NFL (6) despite missing five games with a lacerated kidney.

He was the best remaining free defenseman, according to ESPN’s free agent rankings.

A fourth-round pick by the Saints in 2019, he has 11 interceptions, 36 passes defended and 20 tackles for loss in four seasons.
