NFTs from the CryptoPunks collection sold for a record $23.7 million

Chain Infrastructure CEO Deepak Thaplyal Acquires NFT CryptoPunk #5822 for 8000 ETH (~$23.7 million). The purchase was the largest ever collection from Larva Labs.

Thaplyal wrote on Twitter that he used a loan from the Compound lending platform to purchase the token. According to him, this made it possible to purchase NFTs without selling cryptocurrencies.

Explorer under the pseudonym interlunations suggestedthat the purchase could have been funded by Chain. He pointed out that the cryptocurrency that was allegedly used to secure the loan came to Thapliyal’s wallet from an address labeled on Etherscan as “Chain: Team Wallet 2”.

The CryptoPanks collection was launched by Larva Labs in 2017. It includes 10,000 NFT images sized 24×24 pixels. Initially, many project tokens were distributed for free.

Previously Rare Collection Token sold for 2501 ETH (over $7.8 million at the time).

Recall that in February 2022 the auction house Sotheby’s announced the auction, which will feature a set of 104 CryptoPunks NFTs. The event will take place on February 23rd.
