Nicholas Latifi “10-second penalty for grid infringement is too severe” / Williams F1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix Final[F1-Gate .com]

Williams F1’s Nicholas Latifi is dissatisfied with the 10-second stop-and-go penalty imposed at the 2022 F1 Round 8 Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

Nicholas Latifi slightly overshoots the grid box at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. The Williams F1 crew also put him back in place on the new construction. The problem is that he did it after all the personnel were required to leave the grid.

Steward incurred one of the heaviest penalties of a 10-second stop-and-go penalty early in the race. Nicholas Latifi entered the pit lane, stopped in the pit box for 10 seconds without any permission to work on the car, and was released.

The sanctions, of course, hindered the chance of strong results, and Nicholas Latifi felt too harsh.

“It’s a shame that we didn’t even start and the penalty destroyed everything,” Nicholas Latifi told reporters after the race.

“It was just pushed back and nothing changed in the car. I feel that some generosity should be applied to what the infringement was.”

Nicholas Latifi received a five-second time penalty for ignoring the Blue Flag later in the race after passing the line in 15th place at the bottom.

“It was difficult to get caught by the leader very early in the blue flag cycle, far from the crowd,” continued Nicholas Latifi.

“The race was very long and lonely. I managed to get more mileage and laps in the car, but it was an overall challenging weekend on this track.”

It’s certainly a difficult season for Nicholas Latifi so far. He was unable to score points and is regularly outperformed by his new teammate Alex Albon.

The next race will be the Canadian Grand Prix, which will be Nicholas Latifi’s home race. Due to the outbreak of the new coronavirus, the 2020 and 2021 Grand Prix was canceled, making it Latifi’s first home country Grand Prix.

“It’s a day I want to forget, but I’m excited to go straight to Canada for my first home race,” said Nicholas Latifi.
