Nigeria: 300 prisoners escape after Boko Haram attack

About 300 prisoners have escaped following suspected Boko Haram militants attacked a prison outside the Nigerian capital, using explosives to free some detainees, a government official said Wednesday.

“We understood that they (the attackers) belonged to Boko Haram and came specifically for their co-conspirators… We have now recaptured 300 out of regarding 600 people,” senior Interior Ministry official Shwaibo Balgor told reporters following the attack on Tuesday night on Kogi prison on the outskirts of Abuja. They escaped from prison.”
