Police in the Russian republic of Tuva recently arrested a nine-year-old girl on suspicion of “calling for terrorism”. The child allegedly incited people to kill for money via messaging. “She admitted to sending a message to an unknown number out of boredom,” authorities said.

An unusual arrest took place in the Republic of Tuva. Suspected of inciting terrorism, a nine-year-old child was arrested, like her mother, by the police and FSB agents in the town of Chadan. A local department of the Russian Interior Ministry released a video clip of the girl’s interrogation.
Screenshots of text messages she allegedly sent to a stranger were also shared. “Can you kill people for 500,000 rubles (5,000 euros)?”, we can read in particular. While the recipient refuses this request, the little girl replies: “Goodbye! We need terrorists. No defenders!”
According to the Moscow Times, the request appears to be linked to one of the suspected shooters in the attack at a Moscow concert hall, who claimed he was offered half a million rubles to gun down dozens of people.

“Out of boredom”
During her hearing, the nine-year-old girl “admitted to sending a message to an unknown number out of boredom,” authorities report. It is not yet known whether she will be prosecuted. In Russia, online calls for terrorism are punishable by up to seven years in prison.
For her part, the young girl’s mother is accused of “failure to fulfill obligations relating to the custody and education of a minor”.
