Thiruvananthapuram: Orange Alert has been declared in Thiruvananthapuram district and visitors have been banned from Ponmudi, Kallar and Mankayam ecotourism centers. Thiruvananthapuram DFO informed that visitors will not be allowed entry till further notice.

The Met office has forecast heavy rains in the state for the next three days. The Chief Secretary called an emergency meeting following a notification from the Central Meteorological Department. Chief Secretary VP Joy convened a meeting of all departments and security forces on the instructions of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to strengthen preparations. Collectors from the eight districts where the red and orange alerts were issued will also attend the online meeting, which will be held at 6 p.m.

Red Alert has been declared in Ernakulam and Idukki districts. Orange alert has been declared in Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam and Alappuzha districts and yellow alert in Malappuram and Kozhikode districts.

The Central Meteorological Department has also issued an orange alert in the districts. Isolated showers are forecast.

Though the Central Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert in some districts, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has warned people in low-lying areas, riverbanks and hilly areas prone to landslides and landslides in case of heavy rains in the hilly areas during the last few days.
