No summer like back then in Wagrain and Kleinarl

In the tourism region of Wagrain and Kleinarl, one can look back on a mixed summer. “We managed to achieve an excellent result in May and August – but we noticed that the price increase in restaurants and hotels and the inflation-related lower purchasing power of tourists meant that more expensive accommodation had a more difficult booking situation than cheaper accommodation,” Wolfgang Wild from the Wagrain Tourist Association -Kleinarl.

“Although the subjective perception of some suggests a tough summer, the statistics show the figures for a good season,” explains Wolfgang Wild from the Wagrain-Kleinarl Tourist Association. “We achieved excellent results both in May and in August – nevertheless, we noticed that due to the price increase in gastronomy and hotels and the lower purchasing power of tourists due to inflation, more expensive accommodation had a more difficult booking situation than cheaper accommodation.”

According to Wild, some Wagrain hoteliers are talking regarding a drop in bookings of up to 20 percent. In addition to the prices, the tourism expert gives another reason for the lower number of tourists: “During Corona, we ‘borrowed’ Austrian guests who didn’t leave the country during the pandemic. This year they were driven back to the sea. That felt it we of course.”
