Nomos Introduces the Larger Club 38

Nomos Glashütte has expanded its entry-level mechanical watch line with the release of the Club 38, introducing a larger 38.5mm case diameter alongside a new ruthenium dial option to sit directly alongside the existing 36mm variant, Monochrome Watches reported.

From 2007 Launch to the New 38.5mm Case Architecture

The original Club debuted in 2007 as reference 701, serving as an accessible entry point into mechanical watchmaking with an in-house hand-wound movement priced comfortably under EUR 1,500. Despite its popularity, Nomos discontinued the reference in 2017. Strong demand prompted a brand relaunch in 2023 under the same reference number with minor updates. Until now, the line remained strictly confined to a compact 36mm case measuring 8.2mm in thickness and 44.3mm in lug-to-lug length, paired with 100 meters of water-resistance.

Addressing collectors who found the traditional dimensions too diminutive, the newly launched Club 38 stretches the case diameter to 38.5mm. The profile remains exceptionally slender at 8.4mm with a closed caseback or 8.5mm with an optional sapphire display back. Lug-to-lug distance expands proportionately to 46.7mm, utilizing fully polished steel case construction and a domed sapphire crystal while retaining the signature 100m water resistance.

Mechanical Spec Sheet and Dial Iterations

Powering the new larger variant is the calibre DUW 4001, a modern hand-wound architecture evolving from the historical Alpha movement originally derived from the Peseux 7001 base. The in-house engine incorporates the brand’s proprietary Swing System featuring a blue balance spring, alongside traditional Glashütte ribbing, blued screws, a 53-hour power reserve, and a stop-seconds hacking mechanism.

Buyers can select between two distinct dial executions:

  • Nomos Club 38 (Silvery-White): Galvanised white silver-plated finish featuring blackened hands filled with red-toned Super-LumiNova and grey, black-outlined luminous Arabic numerals with a domed profile.
  • Club 38 Ruthenium: Dark grey galvanised dial with ruthenium plating, rhodium-plated polished hands, white Super-LumiNova, and yellow-outlined numerals.

Both versions feature a small seconds sub-dial positioned above 6 o’clock, which sits slightly further inward toward the center of the dial due to the expanded case diameter. Each model is fitted with a 20/18mm Horween Genuine Shell Cordovan strap.

Permanent Collection Pricing and Availability

The new Nomos Club 38 models join the brand’s permanent catalog immediately. Retail pricing is set at EUR 1,520 for the silvery-white configuration and EUR 1,560 for the ruthenium-plated edition. The optional sapphire display back requires an additional EUR 220 investment.
