Washington.- North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, a Republican. He presented himself this Wednesday as a candidate to his party’s nomination for the 2024 presidential elections.
Burgum officially launched his candidacy at an event in Fargoin that state, shortly after filing the documents with the Federal Election Commission.
In an opinion article, published in the last hours in The Wall Street Journal, Burgum anticipated that the economy will be his main priority.
“ The economy must be our top priority. We must put inflation under control, cut taxes, lower gas prices and lower the cost of living,” Burgum said in the text.
He also advocated “rebuild” the Armed Forces and restore the position of strength of the United States to win the “cold war” with China.

At his rally this Wednesday, Burgum talked about economy and noted that the world is changing rapidly. “How we respond will define our future,” she warned.
“ Technology is changing every job, every company, every industry… And this change will be faster than ever. We need new leadership for a changing economy, we need a leader who understands the real work Americans do every day,” he said.
Relatively unknown nationally, Burgum has implemented conservative policies in her state: she recently signed legislation banning abortion after the sixth week of pregnancy, no exceptions for rape and incest, and barring transgender women and girls from participating in sports competitions.
Still, he vetoed a law that would have prevented teachers from calling students students trans with the pronouns you want.
On the other hand, he set a goal for his state to be “carbon neutral” by 2030.
In the past, Burgum worked as a consultant at McKinsey & Company, and later founded Great Plains Software, a technology company that was later acquired by Microsoft for $1.1 billion, and became a senior vice president of the Microsoft Business Solutions Group, the company that grew out of the merger.
