North Dakota’s pheasant hunting season opens on Saturday and runs through next Jan. 7.
The state Game and Fish Department’s annual pheasant survey in late July and August indicated the population is up for a second straight year.
Pheasant hunters spend tens of millions of dollars annually on travel, food, lodging and other expenses, according to data from North Dakota Tourism. Much of that activity is in the southwest portion of the state. Nonresident hunters on average spend 76% of their hunting season dollars in rural areas, according to the state Commerce Department.
