The ROK and the United States reaffirmed their position that they will respond strongly to North Korea’s intercontinental ballistic missile test launch and continued armed provocations, including the promotion of new UN Security Council resolutions.
U.S. State Department Special Representative for North Korea Sung Kim and Foreign Ministry Director Kyu-duk Roh for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs met at the State Department in Washington DC on the 4th (local time) to exchange views on regional diplomatic and security issues, including North Korea’s provocation.
“We reaffirmed our condemnation of North Korea’s recent launch of ballistic missiles, including ICBMs,” Kim said in a meeting with reporters shortly after the consultation. “This is a violation of multiple UN Security Council resolutions.”
“We must work together in a decisive response to North Korea’s provocative actions,” he said.
“I look forward to working with Director Roh, his team and colleagues at the United Nations to pursue new Security Council resolutions,” he added.
The United States has made a strong response by announcing additional sanctions one after another when North Korea broke the declaration of moratorium on nuclear tests and ICBM test launches announced on March 24 when North Korea launched an ICBM for the first time in four years and four months.
