At least five people in the Russian-occupied city of Nova Kakhovka, located about five kilometers from the dam that collapsed on Monday night, died from flooding, a Kremlin-backed official told the agency. TASS state news agency.

“Vladimir Leontiev, head of the municipal administration of Nova Kakhovka, told Russian television that out of seven people herding cattle, five drowned. “Now we are engaged in the evacuation of the remaining two.”

The breach of the Nova Kakhovka dam unleashed a mass of water down the Dnipro River, inundating cities and towns on both sides.

“The most difficult situation is lived in Aleshki [la grafĂa rusa de “Oleshky”] and Hello Prystan,” another official installed by the Kremlin in the occupied territory of the eastern bank said on Telegram.

Andrey Alekseenko, head of the Russian-backed Kherson region government, said: “The level of the Dnipro rose up to 12 meters. At this time 344 people have already been evacuated from roofs and upper floors with the help of boats. Among them are many people with limited mobility, as well as children.

Oleshky is located about 72 kilometers west of Nova Kakhovka, and Hola Prystan about 19 kilometers beyond.

Earlier, the exiled Ukrainian mayor of Oleshky said he knew of at least three people who died there and thought “there could be many more.”

The Russian-backed official, Alekseenko, said the water in the area was not safe for use and told people to be careful around mines.

“The situation caused by the flooding of water intakes, the erosion of cemeteries and graveyards is currently alarming. Sanitary inspectors warn of the possible danger of water from any source. Only bottled water can be used for drinking and cooking,” stated.
More than 300 people, including 70 children, have been evacuated from the flooded occupied areas so far this Thursday, the Russian Emergencies Ministry reported on Telegram.
