Now the price for Dankort payment is increasing

It will be more expensive for shops to accept the Dankort in the future.

Nets announces in a press release that the company is raising the price for accepting Dankort in physical commerce by 8.9 percent.

The reason is that the number of transactions in which the Dankort is included is decreasing. And since the costs of operating the system do not fall correspondingly, the price must rise.

Nets otherwise lowered the price for using the Dankort in 2022, but now the discount will be rolled back.

– It is the rapid spread of Apple Pay in stores that is the primary reason for the development, says Esben Torpe Jørgensen, director of Nets responsible for Dankort.

He emphasizes, however, that the Dankort is still the cheapest solution on the market.

The price for accepting a payment with a Dankort is regulated by law based on the total costs of running the system.

But even if there is a cap on how much Nets can charge shops overall, the price of the individual transaction will increase if the number of transactions falls.

Figures from Danmarks Nationalbank show that the number of Dankort transactions fell by 27 percent last year.

The international payment cards such as Visa and Mastercard have no ceiling on the fees they can impose on businesses.

Nets is therefore pushing to get the banks to offer the Dankort part of Apple Pay.

Danske Bank, as the only bank, has already made this possible, and Arbejdernes Landsbank and Nordea are among the banks working to do so by 2025 at the latest.

If it’s up to Esben Torpe Jørgensen, it must go quickly.

– The development is deeply worrying, and it is crucially important that Dankort becomes part of Apple Pay at all banks during this year, if we are to reverse the trend, he says.
