According to MP Bert Wollants, a specialist in the energy dossier in the ranks of the Flemish nationalists, the extension of nuclear power is a good thing, but this extension should not have concerned only two reactors (Doel 4 and Tihange 3) and should have been 20 years and not 10 years.
Bert Wollants also denounces the “procrastination” of the federal government which allows Engie, according to him, to kill two birds with one stone. “Engie receives its subsidized gas plant and can now extend the nuclear power plants at a much more expensive price,” said the Flemish nationalist.
The MP also criticizes the Minister of Energy, Tinne Van der Straeten, for having only worked on plan A, namely a total phase-out of nuclear power in 2025.
