Nuki Unveils Invisible Smart Module for Integrated Door Access

Nuki, the Austrian smart access specialist, launched the Smart Module this week, a device that makes doors fully invisible smart for the first time. The technology integrates directly into the door and works for both new builds and existing doors with an electromechanical lock. The module uses fifth-generation Nuki Smart Lock technology but with no visible hardware on either side of the door.

Invisible smart access from an invisible device

Existing Nuki Smart Locks are mounted on the inside of a door. The Smart Module is fully integrated. It controls elektromechanisch deursloten, such as motorized locks or automatic door openers, directly. The technology remains completely out of sight, leaving the front door’s appearance unchanged. A permanent power supply means users no longer need to replace or recharge batteries.

The Smart Module offers the same familiar features as existing Nuki Smart Locks. Users can automatically unlock the door via Auto Unlock, manage access remotely, and share digital access rights via their smartphone. Nuki accessories remain compatible. With a Keypad, users can open the door via NFC, a fingerprint, or an access code. Matter support allows the Smart Module to be integrated into smart home platforms like Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and Samsung SmartThings.

Growing demand for smart access in new construction

Although only four percent of European households use a digital key today, interest in keyless access is increasing. Demand is particularly strong for new builds and renovations for solutions fully integrated into the door. According to market analyses based on the Nuki Market Model, the market for smart doors in new construction will quadruple by 2036 to more than one million doors per year.

To integrate the Smart Module directly into the door manufacturing process, Nuki is collaborating with several partners in the sector. A key partnership is with REHAU Window Solutions, an international specialist in polymer solutions for windows and doors. This collaboration allows manufacturers to build the technology into the production process without adjusting their existing manufacturing processes. “At REHAU Window Solutions, we continue to develop windows and doors that respond to how people live today and tomorrow. Smart solutions increase living comfort through easy operation and technological innovations that make daily life easier,” said Carsten Heuer, CEO of REHAU Window Solutions.

Retrofitting existing doors with invisible smart tech

The Smart Module is not exclusively for new build projects. Existing doors with an electromechanical lock can also be retrofitted with the technology. The module can be installed completely out of sight in a standard built-in box.

New Keypad 2 NFC model and anti-theft feature

Alongside the Smart Module, Nuki is also launching a new white version of the Keypad 2 NFC, which allows doors to be opened via NFC, a fingerprint, or an access code. The new White Edition is designed for light facades and modern entrance areas.

Along with the white edition, Nuki is also introducing theft detection for all Keypad 2 NFC models. A sensor in the battery compartment registers when the device is moved or removed. When the function is enabled, the user receives an immediate notification and the incident is logged in the activity log. In the event of a possible theft, the keypad is automatically secured. Unauthorized persons cannot open the door via the keypad, reset the device, or pair it with another Nuki device. If the Keypad was moved legitimately, the user can easily unlock it again with a fingerprint or access code. After that, all ways to open the door are available again.

Existing users of the black Keypad 2 NFC can also use this feature. Nuki is offering a separate new battery cover with an integrated sensor for this purpose.

What This Means for DIY and Pro Installers

The Smart Module presents a clear architectural choice. For users who want to make their existing door smart in minutes, a traditional Smart Lock remains the right choice. For those who prefer an invisible, permanently installed solution, the Smart Module is now available. This applies to both new build projects and existing doors with an electrically driven slot.

The 30-Second Verdict

The Nuki Smart Module is available today across Europe as an integrated solution through selected door manufacturers. The module is also available separately through certified Nuki Pro Partners and the Nuki Online Shop for a recommended price of 359 euros. The Nuki Keypad 2 NFC White Edition is available today in limited quantities exclusively for Nuki Club members for a recommended price of 179 euros. The white edition will also be offered standard in the Nuki Online Shop later. The separate battery cover with theft detection for existing black Keypad 2 NFC models is available for 4.90 euros.
