Figures from the latest edition of the ICT Household survey, by the Brazilian Internet Steering Committee (CGI.br), indicate that Internet access grew in Brazil in 2023, reaching 84% of the population compared to 80% in 2022. The four-point advance percentages was driven by categories C and DE, which comprise the lowest incomes in society.
According to a survey carried out last year, 64 million homes are connected to the web. The data shows that the smartphone is the only means of access for 58% of peopleindicating that this device is capable of democratizing Internet access, while computers, laptops, tablets and Smart TVs remain restricted to the upper classes.

Considering the results in full, it is noted that divisions C and DE were the ones that grew the most in the last year in terms of Internet connection. In class C, the range went from 87% in 2022 to 91% in 2023 (+4% in twelve months), while in class DE the increase was even greater, totaling +7% in the period, going from 60% in 2022 to 67 % in 2023.
In the case of the highest classes A and B, the internet is present in 98% of homes. This shows a notable disparity in relation to Brazilians with incomes of less than R$7,100 per month. In terms of sharing with neighbors, the highest categories are those that share the least access (1%), while the percentage in DE reaches 25% and 15% in C.
In summary, the volume of disconnected people went from 36 million in 2022 to 29 million in 2023 — this means that 7 million people were able to access the Internet in 12 months. Despite the greater penetration of this connectivity among Brazilians in the latest study, 16% of homes in the country still do not have any access to the network.
