Nurse, although she has cancer, does not stop caring for her patients

For more than two years, Dr. Sandra Maribel Matamoros fought against the cancer of ovaries and gastric hypersecretion, which left her practically incapacitated, however this has not arrested and continues to care for his patients in family medicine

Sandra lost 12 kilos, lost her hair, eyebrows, eyelashes and suffered fragility of her fingernails, due to clinical treatment and chemotherapies and although she is currently in the process of improvement, she restarted her activity doctor in the Ambulatory Care Medical Unit (CREATION) No. 198, in Coacalco, where he has worked for 12 years, out of the 23 that he has been at the Institute in the specialty in Family Medicine.

Her desire to live and her professional dedication as a doctor meant that she did not matter the lack of hair, his eyebrows, which he replaced with a tattoo, false eyelashes and at one time even with a hidden urinary bag, for a few weeks he has been seen again active in his office where he attends to more than 20 patients in his working day, providing them responsible care.





The doctor has cattle the respect and esteem of her colleagues at UMAA No. 198 and the affection of her patients who shower her with small gifts, since there is not a day who does not bring her applethe bottle with water, a sandwich, the embroidered napkin or words of gratitude from the beneficiaries themselves, women and men, for feeling favored by the warmth of the clinical consultation familiar.

He recalled that his passion for medicine was transmitted to him by his parents, both his father, Dr. José Luis Matamoros Zenteno, teacher trainer for residents of the IMSS for more than 20 years, as his mother of profession teacher like her three sisters minors, defines what his experience in his specialty has been like in his 23 years of service at the Institute.

‘All I am is gracias to the Institute. I was born in the IMSS, I was educated in the IMSS, I did my specialty in the IMSS. I love Family Medicine, because we are the primer contact doctor; we have to give the patient safety. We are responsible for the quality of life that the patient will have later and we are the ones who make the timely detection of any of the diseases that they have,’ he commented.

‘I feel good, I feel happy, I really want to be working, even though I’m still undergoing treatment. I am happy because my hair has grown, I no longer have to come in the surgical uniform and put on the cap; I already removed the catheter, I no longer bring the probe to be able to urinate. Now I can chew, before I couldn’t. I lost 12 kilos. I weighed 64, now I weigh 52. I improved a lot in the feeding‘.
