Nvidia could cross the 100 TFlops mark, an incredible performance

The next graphics cards from Nvidia promise to be very ambitious. The GeForce RTX 4090 could be the first graphics card to surpass the 100 TFlops mark.

To what extent can Nvidia mark a generational leap with its Ada Lovelace graphics cards. The brand should present before the end of the year its new generation of GeForce RTX 4000 whose rumors agree that we should break new performance records and consumption.

The 100 TFlops barrier

To evaluate the raw performance of a graphics chip, we use often the number of TFlops FP32. This is a very relative figure which makes it possible to evaluate the raw computing power of a chip and this gives a figure that brands can easily put forward, even if its meaning quickly reaches certain limits.

To be honest, I don’t have much information about AMD. Maybe Lisa and Jensen’s competition will give us a 100TFLOPS gaming war in a few months.

Today, the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti offers between 40 and 45 TFlops of computing power in FP32. It is the most powerful graphics chip on the market, far ahead of the approximately 12 TFlops achieved by the Xbox Series X, the home console with the greatest raw power. The Radeon RX 6900 XTX from AMD promises 25 Tflops of computing performance at FP32.

According to two Twitter accounts followed for their indiscretions on Nvidia et AMD, Greymon55 and Kopite7kimi, the two manufacturers would seek to approach the bar of 100 TFlops for the next generation. If so, we understand that this would represent a huge leap in terms of computing performance.

I can only say that the two products have improved a lot compared to their predecessors, but if you want to ask me directly which one is better, I’m sorry I can’t answer, because no one knows the specific improvement by percentage.

An incredible power

We would therefore be ahead of a generation of graphics cards that would offer twice the raw power compared to existing cards. We would be talking here about an Nvidia AD102 graphics chip equipped with 18,432 cores clocked at 2.8 GHz to reach 103 TFlops. This power gain would be enabled in particular by the use of the TSMC 4N manufacturing process. It remains to be seen what the consumption of such a graphics card would be.

AMD would not be outdone for RDNA 3, one of the best graphics cards of which could also exceed the 90 TFlops mark. Enough to follow Nvidia on its best products.
