NVIDIA is expanding its catalog of graphics cards for workstations this Tuesday (16) with the launch of the RTX A400 and RTX A1000. Both are based on the Ampere architecture — already succeeded by Ada Lovelace — which was used in its line of gaming GPUs launched in 2020, but featuring basic specifications that focus on low cost.

The new graphics cards are designed for desktops, so it is necessary to pay attention to the difference between the new RTX A1000 and the RTX A1000 Mobile, which is already available in professional notebooks from Dell and other NVIDIA partner manufacturers. Thanks to the Ampere architecture, the hardware features 2nd generation ray tracing and 3rd generation Tensor cores.

The RTX A400 is the most affordable option among the launches. We are talking about a model with just 4 GB VRAM and 24 Tensor cores for AI processing on the GPUwhich should guarantee sufficient performance for some of the most popular artificial intelligence tasks on the market for creating images, text, video editing and more.

This model offers output to four external screens with resolution up to 4K. Other highlights include its dedicated video encoding and decoding engines, as well as native support for AV1 decoding.

The RTX A1000 (for desktops) has a GPU with 8 GB of VRAM and 72 Tensor cores which, according to the manufacturer, delivers up to three times more performance than its previous generation in generative AI applications, such as Stable Diffusion. The hardware also has 18 cores dedicated to ray tracing processing.

Both graphics cards operate at a power of just 50 W, so they are even more economical than the RTX 2000 Ada Lovelace, which consumes 70 W. With this design, graphics chips can run in compact cases with a single fan.

Availability

NVIDIA states that the RTX A1000 is now available through partners in the international market, such as PNY and Ryoyo Electric. The RTX A400, in turn, will begin to be available from May. Suggested prices have not yet been confirmed.
