NYSE Owner Plans U.S. Market for Hyperliquid Perpetual Futures

Stan Druckenmiller is backing a new push to bring perpetual futures onshore, as the parent company of the New York Stock Exchange teams up with crypto-trading platform builder Trade.xyz.

ICE and Trade.xyz Target Onshore Derivatives

Intercontinental Exchange, Inc. (ICE (NYSE: ICE)) is partnering to launch a dedicated U.S. venue for perpetual futures. Subject to regulatory clearance from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, the new infrastructure will list round-the-clock contracts spanning equities, commodities, and digital assets.

These instruments allow market participants to maintain leveraged directional bets without a fixed expiration date. While they dominate offshore cryptocurrency trading volumes, they have largely remained outside formal U.S. regulatory frameworks. Bloomberg reported that the planned infrastructure will incorporate dedicated clearing, know-your-customer, and anti-money laundering frameworks built on Hyperliquid’s technological rails.

Institutional Backing and Hyperliquid Rails

The joint initiative, designated as ICE[XYZ], will distribute its contracts through participating brokers and institutional platforms. Trade.xyz will continue operating its existing Hyperliquid markets independently alongside the new U.S. venue.

According to Bloomberg, investor Stan Druckenmiller has joined the project as a backer. This aligns with ICE’s broader digital asset strategy, which included an agreement last October to invest up to $2 billion in Polymarket.

Rapid DeFi Scaling and S&P 500 Expansion

Trade.xyz has scaled rapidly within the decentralized finance ecosystem. Its markets on Hyperliquid have crossed $650 billion in trading volume over a period of just over twelve months. Coindesk reported that builder-deployed markets now account for roughly 50% of total volume on the Hyperliquid platform.

The operational growth builds on previous product expansions, including the acquisition of a license for the first official S&P 500 perpetual contract in March. Below is a breakdown of the key operational metrics associated with the initiative.

Metric / Feature Details
Parent Company Intercontinental Exchange (ICE (NYSE: ICE))
Platform Partner Trade.xyz
Target Asset Classes Equities, Indices, Commodities, FX, Crypto
Hyperliquid Volume Exceeded $650 billion in over a year
Regulatory Body Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC)

Pending CFTC Clearance and Next Steps

The trajectory of the ICE[XYZ] venue depends entirely on formal authorization from the CFTC. While exchange executives have outlined plans for comprehensive clearing and compliance systems, specific launch dates, product eligibility criteria, and fee schedules remain unannounced.

As regulatory reviews progress, Trade.xyz is slated to release further documentation regarding broker onboarding and operational specifications. The intersection of traditional exchange infrastructure with high-frequency decentralized trading rails marks a notable test case for the integration of perpetual swaps into regulated U.S. markets.
