Merchants who persist in refusing to make digital payments possible in their business risk a fine of up to 80,000 euros, or up to 4% of the offender’s total annual turnover if this amount is greater than 80,000 euros.
Several options are available to merchants to comply with the new rules: offer a classic payment card terminal such as Bancontact, offer a classic bank transfer or even use a mobile payment application via a telephone or a connected watch.
These electronic payment options cannot under any circumstances be invoiced to customers.
