MINISTER of Social Affairs (Mensos) Tri Rismaharini, when she was the opening speaker on the second day of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Infrastructure Forum in Paris, France, received appreciation from the OECD Director of Public Governance, Elsa Pilichowski regarding Indonesia’s experience in dealing with disasters.

“There are many lessons that can be learned from Indonesia’s experience, which is very detailed and able to overcome complex disaster problems as an archipelagic country,” said Pilichowski, Thursday (11/4).

Pilichowski continued that OECD countries must learn from each other. Indonesia is one that can be emulated and studied for its disaster management efforts.

“OECD member countries must learn together to face the challenges that will come. We can learn one thing from Indonesia,” said Pilichowski.

This is something that has received a lot of attention, especially regarding the Ministry of Social Affairs’ efforts to provide solutions related to handling trauma healing which involves a multi-stakeholder approach starting from universities, community leaders, traditional leaders, to religious leaders.

Another thing that received appreciation was the economic empowerment of disaster victim communities which had graduated around 38 beneficiary families from poverty.

The establishment of a digital Command Center was also appreciated, which succeeded in answering Moderator Elsa Pilichowski’s question regarding the use of technology and its impact.

Through integration with the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the Command Center can mobilize the resources of the Ministry of Social Affairs, from giving orders to directorates in the Ministry of Social Affairs and 37 UPTs (centers and large centers), to Tagana and Social Assistants. Apart from that, it also allows each human resource (HR) to provide reports quickly in around 10 minutes.

Many participants immediately invited the Minister of Social Affairs to discuss and even wanted to learn from Indonesia. These include England, Italy, Cameroon, Nigeria and Algeria. (Z-6)
