While relations between Square Enix and Xbox have not been exactly happy for several years, the Japanese creator has just announced the arrival of Final Fantasy XIV on Xbox in 2024!

It was during the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Fest 2023 in Las Vegas that FFXIV Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida broke the news. And if it is still necessary to underline the importance of this announcement, the boss of Xbox, Phil Spencer, was also on stage during this important reveal for the X brand.
Released in 2010, Final Fantasy XIV Online is a massively multiplayer role-playing game (MMORPG) that quickly became a success and for which there were no less than 27 million players worldwide.
FFXIV is set in the world of Hydaelyn, a vibrant planet blessed with Crystal Light. Thirteen years after its initial release, Square Enix has therefore finally agreed with Microsoft to bring the game to Xbox in the spring of 2024.
Final Fantasy XIV soon in beta on Xbox, Square Enix is more open
Final Fantasy XIV Online will launch in open beta on Xbox Series X|S as part of the 6.5x update. Along with 4K support on Xbox Series X, Square says Xbox Series X|S will get fast load times.
As soon as the open beta launches, it will be possible to complete all main story dungeons from A Realm Reborn to Endwalker solo, allowing you to comfortably experience the stories of Eorzea on your own and with NPCs, without necessarily play with friends or other players.
As an MMORPG, Final Fantasy XIV Online is a paid game, but we already know that the extended free trial will be coming to Xbox Series X|S, including the entirety of A Realm Reborn as well as the award-winning expansions Heavensward and Stormblood until at level 70 with no game time restrictions.
This announcement is a surprise, but it could mark a major change for the relationship between Microsoft and Square Enix.
