There was no mercy: the Royal Spanish Federation (RFEF) officially announced that Luis Enrique has ceased to be the national coach, after the elimination against Morocco in the round of 16 of the World Cup in Qatar.
The Asturian coach was fired without further ado when the confidence of the 7-0 debut vanished and the process was filled with doubts in the defeat against Japan and then in the round of 16, before which they opted for a radical change.
After the obligatory thanks to the outgoing coach, very cold for others, the announcements did not wait.
The RFEF itself announced, shortly after Luis Enrique’s goodbye, his replacement: Luis de la Fuente, 62, is the new Spain coach.
Who? A man of process in the youth teams with which he has won the European sub 19, the sub 21, the Mediterranean Games in 2018 and was Olympic silver in Tokyo. Several of the youngsters that Luis Enrique summoned to Qatar trained with him.
