The Russian Football Association announced on Monday that it had submitted an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport against the decision of the International Federations “FIFA” and the European “UEFA” to ban Russian teams from participating in the tournaments.
On February 28, FIFA and UEFA decided, in an unprecedented and discriminatory move, to exclude the Russian national football team from the Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifiers and to suspend the participation of all Russian teams and teams in international competitions, against the background of the Russian military operation in Ukraine.
The Russian Football Federation, in an official statement, objected to the decisions of “FIFA” and “UEFA”, which stated: “The decisions are of a clearly discriminatory nature, and harm a large number of athletes, coaches, staff of clubs and national teams, and most importantly, millions of Russian and foreign fans who must That international sports organizations protect their interests first.”
“Such actions divide the global sports community, which has always adhered to the principles of equality, mutual respect and independence from politics,” he added.
“We will demand that all Russian men’s and women’s national teams be able to participate in various tournaments, including qualifying for the World Cup in Qatar, as well as compensation for damages,” he added.
The Russian Federation confirmed that it would request the Court of Arbitration for Sport for a “quick action” on this file, three weeks before Russia and Poland meet in the European qualifying supplement for the World Cup in Qatar.
In its statement, the Russian Federation stressed that sports should remain outside politics under any circumstances, noting that the principle of not confusing sports and politics was adopted by the sports community for many years as one of the most important principles.
Until this moment, the Russian national team, due to the decisions of “FIFA” and UEFA, will not be able to participate in the qualifying play-off for the World Cup “Qatar 2022” against Poland, knowing that it would have hosted the latter on March 24, and the women’s team will also not be able to participate in the European Cup scheduled in England next July.
Spartak Moscow, the only representative of Russia in European competitions, was also excluded from the European League “Europe League”, where it was expected to face Leipzig in the final price.
