UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet said Saturday that the possible extradition of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange to the United States raises fears for media freedom and could have “undermining effects” on investigative journalism.
Bachelet indicated that she met Thursday with Assange’s wife and his defense attorneys.
Julian Assange, who has been languishing since 2019 in Belmarsh Prison near London, which is under tight protection, has challenged the British government’s decision to extradite him to the United States.
