OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss drops their first match of the season against No. 1 West Virginia, 4749-4730. The Rebels continue to improve every match, helped by their success in smallbore. The team scored top-five marks in both team smallbore and aggregate scores.

Four Rebels placed in the top-10 for aggregate score with scores of 1180 or higher. Lea Horvath paced the Rebels with a season-high 1186 aggregate. Regan Diamond and Emma Pereira, counters in both smallbore and air rifle, finished in eighth and tenth, respectively. Juliana Hays countered in smallbore and shot a career-high 1183 aggregate to tie for sixth place.

Ole Miss’ (2-1, 0-1 GARC) 2356 in smallbore tied the program’s third-best mark. Horvath and Hays guided the Rebels with both hitting season-highs in the discipline. Horvath shot a 591 for third place, and Hays shot a 590 for fourth place. Diamond and Pereira also contributed, scoring in the high 580s and landing in the top-10 for smallbore.

Despite not being a smallbore counter, Gretchen Schleinkofer tabbed a personal best of 587 to finish 10th in smallbore.

More career bests were shattered in air rifle, starting with Diamond. The Colorado native fired 595, topping her previous mark set in the first match against Jacksonville State. Diamond and Horvath, who also shot a 595, placed in the top-five in air rifle. The three other Rebel air rifle counters were not far behind, shooting a 592.

The counters were just one of the Rebels to excel in air rifle. Hays tied her career-high with a 593, landing at seventh best in the match. The two freshmen, Schleinkofer and Olivia Schammel outperformed their first match at Ole Miss by miles. Schleinkofer surpassed her previous personal record by 10 points, firing a 585. Schammel smashed her personal best by a whopping 18 points, scorching a 586.

Eight career highs were either tied or broken during the match. Ole Miss tied for their fifth-highest aggregate match score as a team.

West Virginia finished with three shooters in the top-five. Mary Tucker paced the Mountaineers, firing an 1189 aggregate, followed by Matt Sanchez’s 1188. In smallbore, Griffin Lake led the field with a 595. Sanchez, Molly McGhin, and Natalie Perrin shot a 598 to tie for the best in air rifle.
