Olympia 2022 – tears in ski jumper Sara Takanashi: German supervisor becomes a heroine

It wasn’t just Katharina Althaus who cried when she at the scandalous team mixed competition was surprisingly disqualified in ski jumping because of a faulty suit. Superstar Sara Takanashi from Japan, who was also disqualified, broke down crying uncontrollably.

In her homeland, a video has now become a viral hit, showing how Takanashi was comforted by a German. Theresia Schuster, physiotherapist for the ski jumpers at DSV, bent down to her, put her arm around her and handed her a pack of tissues.

A great gesture, for which she was showered with praise in Japan.

Five women were disqualified in total that day. In addition to Althaus and Takanashi, the Norwegians Silje Opseth and Anna Odine Ström and the Austrian Daniela Iraschko-Stolz. When it comes to a suit, factors such as size, design and thickness of the fabric are limited.

The Polish women controller Aga Baczkowska and Mika Jukkara, who is responsible for the men and who replaced Sepp Gratzer at the beginning of the season, came into focus.

“The new inspector has tightened the controls extremely. The FIS procedure hasn’t gotten any better, it’s gotten worse,” said national coach Stefan Horngacher.
