Olympic Medalist Javier Fran Takes Helm of Argentina‘s Davis Cup Team
Javier Fran, the 1992 Olympic silver medalist in Barcelona, has been officially presented as the new captain of Argentina’s men’s tennis team. Taking over the reins after the departure of Guillermo Coria, Fran brings a wealth of experience and a well-defined vision to the role.
Feeling the Excitement
“It’s an immense feeling,” Fran expressed, visibly joyful. “It’s a great pleasure to be in this moment. On the one hand, there’s immense joy, but on the other, a great sense of responsibility. I know Argentina is a highly respected country, a tennis powerhouse. Embarking on this process fills me with excitement, and it’s a challenge I’m confident I can tackle successfully.”
More Than Just Davis Cup
While the Davis Cup will undoubtedly be a key focus, Fran stresses that his role extends beyond simply managing the country’s performance in the prestigious team competition.
“My role isn’t just about focusing on the Davis Cup series. I want to actively engage with the players, offer my support, and contribute to their tennis development. Most importantly, I don’t want them to feel isolated. For me, this position transcends the Davis Cup; it’s about building a lasting connection and a sense of camaraderie,” Fran explained, adding, “We’re going to establish a strong bond within the team.”
“Everyone starts from scratch in this new phase,” the new captain emphasized when asked about his initial plans for the team.
“Horacio Zeballos is definitely among the players who are in consideration, I need to speak with him, but I won’t have time to introduce myself or learn everyone’s schedules,” Francluded.
