Vienna (OTS) – The Natural History Museum Vienna mourns the death of Hofrat Dr. Anton Kern, director of the Prehistoric Department from 2001 to 2022, who died on October 28, 2023 following a serious illness.
Kern studied prehistory and early history at the University of Vienna and joined the NHM Vienna in 1991.
Kern achieved great scientific success in the World Heritage region of Halstatt with his research into the prehistoric burial ground on the Salzberg. Hallstatt became his second home and he was an active member of the Hallstatt Museum Association. His most important legacy to the Natural History Museum came in 2015 with the general renovation and redesign of the prehistoric exhibition halls.
