On the occasion of March 11, the leaders of the country wish not to lose the wisdom and peace of Sąjūdis

“While walking the path of freedom, let’s not lose the wisdom and peace of Sąjūdis. After all, this generation has an equally important historical mission – to preserve freedom. Let’s gather like-minded people, strengthen our country and rush to help those who need it most. Only with joint efforts can we create the Lithuania of dreams”, – says President Gitanas Nausėda in a statement released by the Presidency on Monday.

According to him, March 11 is a great date not only in the history of Lithuania, but also in the history of the whole world. Having stubbornly defended its independence for centuries, Lithuania was the first of the Soviet-occupied nations to stand up to defend its human dignity and freedom.

“Our freedom march returned Lithuania to the democratic Western world and significantly contributed to the beginning of a new historical period,” says G. Nausėda.

According to him, the Renaissance generation will never forget that the greatest power that “helped us change the face of Lithuania and the whole world was the unity of the nation”.

Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė claims that this day is the most significant page in modern Lithuanian history. It testifies to our nation’s courage and determination, unity and desire for freedom.

“Fate decided to settle at the intersection of the Western and Eastern worlds. Russia’s ferocious aggression against Ukraine clearly shows that in this geopolitical space we must never lose our vigilance, always be ready not only to create, but also to defend the Motherland”, says the Prime Minister.

I. Šimonytė emphasizes that, as shown by the Russian war in Ukraine today, the ideas of freedom and independence are immortal and Ukrainians are also immortal because of their struggle to victory – the victory of humanity over the brutality of the aggressor.

“We all have to strive for this victory: through our work, strong decisions, real support, providing support and celebrating the freedom we have today,” says the Prime Minister.
