On women’s economic security… This is what was mentioned in the report of the parliamentary hearings

The head of the Parliamentary Women and Children Committee, Representative Inaya Ezz El-Din, affirmed, “Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri’s keenness and emphasis on dialogue under the parliament in an attempt to open paths for solutions in the country, especially on the issue of the presidential elections.”

Ezz El-Din’s words came during the launch of the report of the hearings held in the House of Representatives, entitled “Women’s Economic Security in the Shadow of Crises”, in the presence of a number of deputies and representatives of associations and bodies that participated in the hearings, as well as representatives of a number of trade unions, embassies and international organizations.

Ezz El-Din indicated that “the hearings took place in light of the difficult and exceptional circumstances that Lebanon is going through and in light of the great imminent challenges, which led to a near lack of trust between the Lebanese citizen and the political institutions,” stressing that “parliaments have a pivotal role in overcoming and confronting challenges. Opening a path to enable people to engage and participate in legislative processes constitutes a contributing element in shaping people’s present and future,” explaining that “the hearings come in this context.”

And she stressed that “choosing the issue of “women’s economic security in light of crises” was not impromptu, as this issue is important and was a priority in light of the Covid-19 pandemic and in conjunction with the economic crisis we are living through, which has had a great impact on the conditions of Lebanese women. stakeholders, without excluding anyone, especially to Lebanese women directly, without intermediaries, in the countryside, in cities, and from within families and workplaces,” considering that “this inclusiveness is a condition for the success of the hearings.”

Ezz El-Din called for “partnership with all parties,” stressing “the role of the media in transforming the titles of the hearings into a media article and into a public opinion issue.”

She also called on civil society to “cooperate”, expressing her regret “that some women’s associations did not show enough readiness for participatory and collaborative work that guarantees the rehabilitation and consolidation of bridges between the components.”

She concluded by urging “expanding the listening experience to include new titles in various fields.”
